Star House is the sole drop-in facility in Central Ohio dedicated to aiding youth facing homelessness. By providing a secure environment, immediate access to essential necessities, and valuable connections to support services, they assist young individuals during vulnerable times.

Due to current restrictions, the staff at Star House are unable to offer traditional hugs to the youth under their care. Given the widespread challenges posed by unemployment, intense stress, and health risks, expressions of empathy and kindness hold greater significance in our society.

In response to this predicament, a team has devised an innovative solution that introduces a modern approach to conveying sentiments of connection. They present a unique adaptation of hugs alongside an application designed to lessen the divide between staff members and the youth they serve.

The Hugs app, in conjunction with self-embracing actions, replicates the heartbeat of the individual with whom you wish to share a moment of closeness. Whether observing social distancing protocols, engaging in video calls, or remotely sending comfort, this tool aims to foster emotional connections.

You simply launch the application, position your phone against your chest to sense the heartbeat rhythm, all while visually connecting with the other person in real-time. To send a virtual hug, submit your name and that of your recipient and then transmit it electronically. It is assured that our application does not gather any personal data neither from you nor the recipient of the hug.

This uncomplicated method is available for universal use and serves as a heartwarming gesture that can be extended to anyone in need. We encourage individuals to embrace this tool as a means of sharing love and support with those who require it.
